Often people ask this question about the possible benefits of meditation. Since anxiety is one of the most troublesome problem being faced by people of this modern era, everybody is curious to know as to whether the anxiety can be cured by meditation.
First of all, let us understand anxiety in brief:
Anxiety is a general term used for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a serious impact on daily life.
People often experience a general state of worry or fear before confronting something challenging such as a test, examination, recital, or interview. These feelings are easily justified and considered normal. Anxiety is considered a problem when symptoms interfere with a person’s ability to sleep or behave normally. Generally speaking, anxiety occurs when a reaction is out of proportion with what might be normally expected in a situation.
So Can anxiety be cured with meditation ?
In a single sentence the answer is : Yes.
Anxiety is a problem basically related with our mind and is based on false expectations about ourselves and the external world. When we feel that we are not up to the mark or in any way are not meeting the expected expectations of the world around us, we become tense and stressed. In my opinion, it is a problem which emanates from an extreme lack of self-confidence.
Unless you realize your true nature, you will keep taking your role in life too seriously. Meditation teaches us the insignificance inherent in all things we consider significant. It gives us a new way to look at the life we all are living in our little worlds.
Here is a link worth reading. It is the real life experience of a person who cured his anxiety through meditation.
Now what you need to do to cure your anxiety with meditation ?
Well, nothing special. Just keep meditating daily at the same time and same place.
Remember what I told you in the early introduction to meditation. Meditation should not be done with some form of gain in mind. The fruit will certainly come but not on the terms dictated by you.
Meditation itself is enough. It has that inherent power to control the anxiety. You need not make some extra effort for it. Gradually as you meditate, you will gain an inner strength and peace to cope up with the problems of your life. Anxiety is nothing but our tendency to become tense and nervous in the face of day to day problems. Meditation provides us the strength to cope up with this problems and an ability to see the problems from a different perspective altogether.
